You’re A College Student Feeling Overwhelmed, Isolated, & Like You’re At A Crossroads.
You wake up and go to class surrounded by peers, but feel alone and overwhelmed by your thoughts. You thought college was when you'd meet your people, figure out who you are, and find your confidence — but that hasn't been your experience. Instead, you're starting to wonder if you'll ever know what it's like to thrive, not just survive your days.
ps Are Hard.
While my practice is geared primarily toward parents’ mental health, I also reserve a number of spots for college students, as this population holds a special place in my heart. If this is you, please don't hesitate to reach out. Read on below to learn more about what you can expect from therapy with me.
HOW I CAN HELP
What To Expect From Therapy With Me
Whether you're navigating a first semester away from home, a major life decision, or just trying to figure out who you are in this new stage of your life, our work together will meet you where you are. My style of therapy is conversational and direct — I'm not a "blank slate therapist" who sits silently across from you. I won't just nod and ask how something makes you feel; I'll ask questions, offer perspectives to consider, and encourage you to practice courage by trying new things when old ways aren't working. The foundation of this work is a trusting relationship, built over time.
WHAT LIFE CAN FEEL LIKE
How Therapy Can Help You Actually Enjoy Your College Experience
Right now, it might be hard to envision what life looks like when you're feeling good. Let me paint you a picture: you've formed a community of people who know you and love you, and with whom you can show up on good days and bad days. You feel a genuine sense of belonging. Schoolwork no longer feels unmanageable, you have activities you look forward to each day, and you know how to take care of yourself to support your mental health. You've gained communication skills to work through inevitable conflict in relationships, you're exploring your identity and becoming more and more you, and there's room for joy in your life again.
WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE
Where We’ll Begin
We start with an intake session where we go through your history — including your relationships with family and peers — explore lifestyle habits that might be impacting your mental health, and identify your goals for therapy. We work backwards from the question: "If therapy were successful, what would life look like a year from now?" Before we tackle the hard work, we need a clear picture of what's going on.
THE LOGISTICS
-
My office is located across the street from Dascomb Hall in a cozy, quiet office. But, if you prefer to do therapy from the comfort of your dorm, I also offer virtual sessions.
-
Intake sessions are $160 and follow up sessions are $145. All sessions are 50-minutes unless additional time is requested. I do not take insurance but can provide a superbill for you to submit to insurance for potential out-of-network benefits.
-
Short answer: as often as you’d like.
Long answer: I’ve found (and research has, too), that the relationship between a therapist and her client is the #1 predictor of success in therapy. So, I typically recommend starting with weekly sessions to build a solid foundation, then figuring out together what frequency serves your long term goals.
